HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
The Town Board and Highway Supervisor are responsible for the maintenance of about 151 miles of Town highway (roadway).
TOWN POLICIES AND ORDINANCES
Winter Maintenance. The town will coordinate emergency snow removal efforts during severe storms to ensure public safety and access. Typically, the snow plow drivers are in their trucks and on their designated snow plow route at ____ am when emergency snow conditions are present. Otherwise, their normal daily start time is 6:00 am.
Injury to Highways. Wis. Stat. § 86.02 – Any person who shall injure any highway by obstructing or diverting any creek or watercourse or sluiceway, or by dragging logs or timber thereon, or by any other act, shall be liable in treble damages, to be recovered by the political division chargeable with the maintenance of highway injured, and the amount recovered shall be credited to the highway maintenance fund.
Placement of Injurious Substance on Highway. Wis. Stat. §346.94(5) reads as follows: No person shall place or cause to be placed upon a highway [roadway] any foreign substance which is or may be injurious to any vehicle or part thereof. The penalty for violation is a fine of $50.00 for each offense.
Weight Limits on Highways. The town recognizes seasonal weight limits as set by the Douglas County Highway Department. Any questions, contact the Highway Supervisor at (715) 376-2276. More information is available on the Douglas County website.
